I had no intentions of writing this week's blog. But what I did Friday night changed my mind in a hurry.

I went to see the movie Contagion with my husband. I can guarantee you this is not a movie review, but I will say this one thing about this movie: it scared me. It didn't scare me in a "horror movie" sort of way. No, it scared me because so much about this movie could actually happen. Aren't those the worst kind?

For those of you who may not have heard about this movie, it's about a virus that spreads rapidly and creates a worldwide epidemic. It's something that has happened and something that could certainly happen again. And as we were sitting in the theater, someone coughed. I looked at my husband! Then he coughed again and again and again … c'mon people!

Ah yes, I can almost hear many of you say, "Boy, Stephanie, I wish those lack of intentions for writing the blog would have stuck." I know. Sounds pretty bleak. Yes, fear certainly can be.

I have struggled with fear most of my life. Fear that tormented me at times as a child. Fear that gripped me as an adult and created tremendous phobias. Fear that can only be conquered by the One who conquered the grave.

When we truly understand who we have living inside of us, we can truly understand that we have nothing to fear, because, ultimately, He has everything under control.

Let's look at what He tells us in His Word.

•     So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed,
for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I
will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah
      41:10 NIV)

•     For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power
and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV)

•     Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of troubles from
the wicked when it comes; For the Lord will be your
confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.
      (Proverbs 3: 25-26 NKJV)

•     The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I
fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom
shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1 NKJV)

We have nothing to fear, because God is our strength, our shield, our fortress, and our deliverer! He has already won the battle! And this just scratches the surface.

Do you struggle with fear? What do you do with all of that fear?
